Advanced Strum Ukulele Lesson | Triplet Pattern | 4K

Let us continue our musical journey on mastering the art of strumming the ukulele. In this lesson, I will teach you the triplet strum pattern with the help of 7th chords. A triplet strum pattern implies playing 3 notes per beat.

Before you begin the course on the triplet pattern, you will need to bear certain things in mind:

You will need to keep your strumming wrist in a relaxed and comfortable position.

The roll should be continuous and balanced.

You should start slow and build up your speed as you get more confident with the pattern.

Once you are set, let’s begin this tutorial with the G7 ukulele chord. The fingering of the G7 chord is:

Open 4th string

2^nd finger on the 2^nd fret of the 3^rd string

1^st finger on the 1^st fret of the 2^nd string

3^rd finger on the 2^nd fret of the 1^st string

Now that you know the fingering positions, let me explain how to count the triplet. It is quite simple:

I will now teach you how to play the chord progression that I played at the beginning of the video.

Begin with G7 chord and then move to Ab7 chord. The Ab7 for this ukulele lesson is identical to the shape of the G7 but moved up 1 fret higher.

Then go back to the G7 chord.

Next you will move the G7 shape to the 6th fret for C7 chord.

Next, slide it down to 5th fret for the B7 chord.

After this, you can slide down to 4th fret for Bb7 chord.

Next, go to the 3rd fret for A7 chord.

Finally, repeat the first pattern going from G7 to Ab7.
