Heather Carter
Heather E. F. Carter is a musician, educator, writer, and co-creator of Uke Like The Pros and Rock Like The Pros. A lifelong Southern Californian, she brings a rare blend of academic rigor, creative insight, and musical artistry to everything she does.
Heather holds a B.A. in European History from UCLA and two Master’s degrees—Medieval Women’s History from CSU Fullerton and Early Modern History from UCLA. She spent six years in UCLA’s doctoral program before leaving academia to pursue creative work full time. Her scholarly background continues to inform her teaching, leadership, and approach to learning.
An accomplished flutist and music educator, Heather teaches flute and plays an active role in music education across multiple platforms. She co-founded Uke Like The Pros and Rock Like The Pros alongside her husband, professional musician Terry Carter, and is deeply involved in the member experience. Heather leads practice sessions and study groups, helping students stay motivated, organized, and connected as they build their musical skills.
In addition to her work in music education, Heather is a published author with two novels to her credit, bringing the same discipline, creativity, and attention to detail to her writing as she does to her musical pursuits.
Heather lives in San Diego with her husband, their twins, and a very memorable pet snake. Music remains a constant presence in her life, both at home and within the global Uke Like The Pros community.
