• Lesson 1 - Beginning Strum Patterns: This lesson reviews the 6 most important strum patterns used in many classic songs. We will cover quarter note and eighth note rhythms using the I - IV - I - V strum pattern (C - F - C - G chords). This information is essential as a ukulele player.

• Lesson 2 - Advanced Strum Patterns: This lesson looks at 6 of the most popular strum patterns used in contemporary music. We will cover eighth note and sixteenth note rhythms using the I - IV - I - V strum pattern (C - F - C - G chords). This patterns are absolutely necessary to play more challenging songs.

• Lesson 3 - Knockin' On Heaven's Door: We will re-explore this class Bob Dylan song while working on a more contemporary strum pattern. This lesson will really help you learn to change chords faster as you weave your way between the major and minor chords present in this song.

• Lesson 4 - Blvd of Broken Dream: Green Day is one of my favorite bands. Matter of fact I recently spend the summer surfing with Billie Joe. This classic progression uses some diatonic and non-diatonic chords to give it an interesting sound and also will introduce the Power Chord.

• Lesson 5 - With or Without You: U2 is a band that has transcended generations and has fans of all ages. Sometimes simplicity is the greatest thing. You will learn how a song can only use 4 chords for both the verses and choruses and still create a songs that is exciting and fun to play.

• Lesson 6 - Stand By Me: This timeless favorite by Ben E. King will get the entire crowd singing and tapping their feet. You will learn the 'muted' strum pattern as you explore the magic of the R&B sound.

• Lesson 7 - Island In The Sun: This lesson takes common chords and twists it up with a syncopated and 'muted' strum pattern in the verses. But then get ready to rock when you hit the power chords that are used in the chorus.

• Lesson 8: Honky Tonk Woman: Like the Rolling Stones? I love them and have seen them several times in concert. This rock and roll favorite uses 'cowboy' chords and a unique strum pattern to give it a country feel. Join the original 'bad boys' of rock for this one.

• Lesson 9 - Can't Help Falling In Love: Elvis is considered to be one of the first rock and roll stars, but songs like Love Me Tender and Can't Help Falling In Love showed his softer romantic side. This song has found new 'life' through covers by artists such as Twenty One Pilots. This song will weave between minor, major and dominant 7th chords.

• Lesson 10 - Wonderful World: Louis Armstrong recorded this timeless song back in 1967 and it re-emerged again in 1993 when 'IZ' recorded it as part of a medley with Somewhere Over The Rainbow. This song is really a jazz song and you will learn many new chords in this one including diminished 7th, minor 7(b5), 7th (b9) and minor 6th chords.

• Lesson 11 - Hotel California: What can you say? This song has one of the most recognizable progressions heard in music. Although there are not tons of different chords, the order of the chords is somewhat untraditional. This lesson will also help you work on the your contemporary strum patterns. Add some lyrics to this one and you will be the hit of the party.

• Lesson 12 - Creep: In this lesson you will take 4 bar chords and a sixteenth note strum pattern to imitate this haunting song. This will give your right hand a work out as you learn to maintain a solid and consistent pattern throughout.

• Lesson 13 - Reggae - Stir It Up: Bob Marley is the 'Father' of Reggae music. With a mix of laid back syncopated grooves and simple 3 chord songs he elevated the music to new heights. This song uses syncopated sixteenth note strum patterns and partial bar chords to produce its sound.

• Lesson 14 - Reggae - Santeria: The Long Beach band Sublime took rhythms of Reggae and mixed it with Rock to create a cool Southern California sound. In this lesson you will use syncopated eighth note 'off-beats' together with some 'strange' chords. It's great practice in maintaining a consistent beat while trying not to play on the 'down-beats.'

• Lesson 15 - Classical - Ode To Joy: Ludwig Van Beethoven is hands down the greatest composer of symphonies. He took the Romantic Symphony to levels no one since has been able to exceed. The Ode To Joy melody is heard in his Symphony #9 during the 5th movement. It is a song that will be recognized by anyone on the planet.

• Lesson 16 - Rasgueado: In this lesson we will re-explore the rasqueado. This challenging fingerstyle technique is reminiscent of the great Spanish composers and guitar players of the past. The rasgueado technique translate quite well to the ukulele and we will explore this pattern with the progression to The Animals song, House of the Rising Sun.

• Lesson 17 - Blues Shuffle in G: The Blues is one of the most important styles of music to be able to play. You can travel to anywhere in the world and play a 12 bar blues with another musician. It's like a worldwide language. In this lesson we will explore how to play the open position Blues in the key of G. This will be an essential building block to Blues in all the different keys we will explore.

• Lesson 18 - Straight Blues in G: In this lesson we will look at the Blues but will play it with a straight (not swung) feel. The straight eighth note feel gives the blues more of a rock and roll feel and was used by artists such as Chuck Berry, The Beach Boys, and Little Richard. You will also learn to play a 'quick change' in this Blues progression.

• Lesson 19 - Walking The Dog Blues: This is a single note rhythm Blues pattern with a cool turnaround. Instead of playing chords for the Blues rhythm this lesson will show you how a single note pattern can be just as effective as as chords for keeping the rhythm. This Blues is in the key of A and a blast to play.

• Lesson 20 - Octave Jump Blues: We will stay with single notes and in the key of A for this one. In this lesson you will learn to play the 'octave' while jumping over the fretboard. This pattern has been used by many of the Blues greats such as Muddy Water, Howlin' Wolf and Jimi Hendrix.

• Lesson 21 - Chuck Berry Blues in A and Bb. That is right, in this lesson I will show you how to play 'closed' Blues chords in 2 different keys. It is important to learn how to play 'closed' chords that way you can move all over the neck and play a Blues in any key that you desire.

• Lesson 22 - Chuck Berry Swing Blues in Bb: Although Chuck Berry mainly recorded straight Blues progressions, in this lesson we will look at taking one of his patterns and making it swing. You will end up getting an entire world of new material while creating some fun songs and jams.

• Lesson 23 - Jazz Blues in C: In this lesson we will explore the Jazz Blues. This progression uses 7th chords, 9th chords, minor 7th chords, and a quick change to add 'grease' to the Blues. You will also learn how to use staccato and accented notes to make your strum pattern really 'swing. This is similar to the Jazz Blues in Bb that we learned but now transposing it up a whole step.

• Lesson 24 - Country Blues: Are you a fan of Johnny Cash like I am? You might want to get your cowboy hat and boots on for this one. We will explore the world of Country Blues using the alternating root-5th bass pattern. Throw in some muted sixteenth strum patterns and it will be like you're sitting on the train tracks in Mississippi.

• Lesson 25 - Minor Blues in C: So many of the Blues that we play use major or 7th chords. In this lesson we will look at a Minor Blues which has a much darker sound than our traditional Blues. This style emulates the great B.B. King using minor chords and single notes between the strums. This is so cool that it sounds like there are 2 guitars playing as you play the rhythm and the lead all at once.

• Lesson 26 - Blues Solo: In this closing lesson it it time to let it rip and learn how to start improvising a ukulele solo. That's right in this lesson I will give you all the tools necessary to start learning how to create your own melodies and solos. This is really fun as it allows you to start being creative and playing right off the top of your head.
